We crossed over the land border from Belize, with no issues…very smooth and early in the morning. Then after some breakfast at the hotel, we drove to the National Park, in the jungle. At 10am the day was already heating up. So glad there was a canopy most of the way, so we weren’t in direct sun. It was still very hot.

So we just trundled along with the group and I did not attempt to climb the stairs to the top. Luckily Lionel went up to the viewing platform to take a few pics. Good on him!

We were a lather of sweat by the time we had seen the main pyramids. It’s a very extensive site and spreads off in all directions. It’s amazing to think these buildings were constructed around 500CE. So much rock moving!

One other member of the group and I chose to catch the truck back to the start. We’d just settled down with a delicious cold fruit ice and they arrived…must have sprinted!

It’s so amazing what they could do so long ago – no engineering degrees needed

Yes! We were wondering where their interest in Astrology and Mathematics came from. One theory is the Mayans arrived from Mongolia across the Bering Strait land bridge…there is DNA evidence. Mongolia being close to China, we know how advanced the Chinese were…

It was! But the temperatures have been unusually high, so once again it was a challenge to walk around, glad for the jungle!
