Agia Marina

We had a big travel day, leaving Alexandria at 6:30am. Catching a taxi to the station, then a train back to Cairo. Trying to find the bus to the airport seemed an impossible task, especially with drivers trying to get us to go with them. A young man at Go.Bus helped us get an Uber, even though another driver was ranting at him. I apologised to him and he was still keen to help us, and got us safely across the road to the driver. (Crossing the road was a major challenge!)

A plane to Athens and a very easy to understand Metro system saw us arrive in Piraeus for the evening, it didn’t take us too long to find our hotel and an icy cold Mythos beer was definitely in order!

Piraeus Harbour is very easy to navigate, the signage is good and we found the correct gate to catch our first ferry to Aegina Island.

Somehow, I managed to book us a room on the quiet side of the island and it has been wonderful.

We’ve been swimming, although the water is still a bit cool. It is crystal clear, and it’s just perfect for a few relaxing days. Biggest decision is where and what to eat for dinner!

Yesterday we climbed the hill to Apsia Temple, quite a steep walk, but well worth the effort.

Last night was our 43rd wedding anniversary, we celebrated with octopus, meatballs and melt in your mouth stew washed down with a bottle of rose. Not too shabby!

  1. Happy 43rd Anniversary! Sounds like getting to Cairo Airport was a bit hairy but glad Greek bit went smoothly. You can now relax! Awaiting shots of Corinthian columns next!! 🤪
