The snow is still on the mountains and today we drove to another small village way up near the border with Dagestan. The ski resort we passed along the way had machines for making snow and a number of chalets, which the expats from Baku flock to in Winter.

The mountains are immense, there are very few barriers along the narrow roads, we decided to walk a couple of kilometres down to the village, all the time aware of the sheer drop beside us.

I cannot imagine how harsh life would be for the village during Winter, it is about 30kms from Quba and supplies. I expect there would be weeks when they were cut off. Landslides also looked probable.

You’ve found your true home at the tea house! Very rugged country!
