The road to Palenque had so many reductos (speed humps). Every village we passed through had them placed near people’s homes, which are located very close to the roadside. So it was a bumpy ride!
We arrived at Agua Azul, an area of cascading waterfalls where you can swim. It was lovely.

After two hours here, we hit the road and headed to Palenque for the night. Not much to report about this town, apart from the very tasty meal we had at the Jade Cafe. I’m starting to appreciate a cold beer…too hot for anything else!

The following morning we were at the Palenque Ruins just before 9am, in order to beat the heat. The ruins are in the jungle, many still covered in vines, weeds, trees and earth mounds. A number are tombs, as well as a palace. It was a great place to wander around. Climbing the steps was a challenge and everyone was in a lather of perspiration as we waited for the bus, an hour and a half later. So glad we went early!

It would have been good to have longer here, but we had along way to go on the bus. It was so bumpy I couldn’t read or stitch! Thankfully the air con was working well!
Reductos – gotta love the Spanish language!! Agua Azul looks beautiful. Pretty good swimming hole. 👍

It was lovely, and peaceful away from the main pool. The water flows quite fast, I stayed on my bottom to slide from rock to rock!

One of our group said it reminded her of the lakes in Croatia that you went to.
