Three days in Merida gave us time to sleep in and visit a few sites around the city square. The whole town feels like it is under construction, the footpaths and roadways are being replaced near the central plaza, some of them are really slippery!
It’s very hot here too, so we go out in the morning, then come back for a rest, then out again and back beside the pool by about 5pm. The colonial buildings are very decorative, but we tend to only look at a few before the heat gets us.
A highlight for me was Sisal Hacienda. They asked for no photos to be taken, to protect the artisans’ work I suppose. I did ask permission to take a couple of pics of the looms!
We also visited a lovely art gallery, which had a great collection of sculptures too.
The contrast between buildings is surprising, some look deserted, but then you will see people entering through metal gates and French doors. Some are very colourful, painted in bright colours and fresh trim. I love just walking around the streets and observing.
Merida looks great. More textile utopia! 👍
