I’m not sure what we expected, maybe a much quieter version of Cancun (which is not far up the road). But after one afternoon of walking down the equivalent of Surfer’s Paradise main avenue, we knew this just wasn’t our scene!

So many bars, souvenir shops, restaurants, massage parlours, tattooists and hundreds of other little shops, we took our time, stopping every now and then to watch the very interesting passing parade. Every imaginable shape and size in all manner of skimpy beachwear. What I loved about that was that no one seemed to care, they were just out to enjoy their holidays. (We met a German couple who were spending six weeks at our hotel!)

Everyone wants to sell you things, but because it is such a tourist area the prices are a bit ridiculous. $10 for a magnet! And there are thousands of them!

We did go for a swim in the Caribbean. The water was a beautiful aqua colour, but it was windy and the shore is covered in seaweed, which the workers rake up every day.

We watched a group swinging from a very high pole. Not much OH&S around here!

Looks interesting. An obviously easy accessible resort area for tourists to pour into! Onward to quieter places.
