Another day in the mini bus driving to the Pacific Coast of El Salvador. On the way we passed through San Miguel and stopped at the mall, which is just the same as our big shopping centres. Some of the names are worldwide and some are local.

We arrived at our rustic accommodation at La Tortuga, which is run by an ex New Yorker, a surfer, who has implemented a number of projects to support the locals. These include pelican rescue and turtle conservation. He also recycles and sorts the rubbish, which is not a common thing.

We had two days here, the water was quite warm, but very salty. Black sand beaches because of the surrounding volcanoes, and small waves.

There were also a couple of pools which the city folk bring their families to for the day. They drink, eat, play music and loll around in the many hammocks on the property, it’s very popular. The older women swim fully clothed. Lots of laughter and chatting, they pack up as the sun goes down and head back to town.

Plenty of seafood available too. We had small lobsters (langoustines?) one night and my favourite, raw fish the second evening. Happy hour went on all night so we had a few mojitos too.🍻🥂🍸
Wow! Your accommodation sure is rustic! It looks very relaxing, though

This was the most basic, but it had a shower, flushing toilet, fan, aircon and screens on the windows.

I would find soldiers on the beach a little disconcerting. 😬

It’s part of the government’s strategy to keep gangs under control. I felt sorry for them, so hot and they were fully decked out, including guns!

;Are they soldiers?

That was the owners description! It reminded us of budget travels in Asia.

Trying to work out the man with the child. Was it a dummy?
The beach looks great…..almost like Australia…….not sure about the soldiers though!

He was a busker on the street, so it’s not the best pic. He had a painted silver face. The head in front of him is fake…

Love the chaotic electricity pole pic! The happy hours mojito session sounds good. The New York guy trying to make a local difference whilst exploiting the accommodation market sounds like a fair trade! Good on him. A capitalist with a social conscience. 👍😜

He’s lived there for years, an old surfer…I reckon about 70. He employs a lot of people and the place even got a mention in Lonely Planet.
