Abu Simbel

I remember studying this place in Art History, back in the seventies. The entire temple was dismantled and reconstructed high above the water line, when the rising waters of Lake Nasser were going to cover it.

What an amazing feat! We left the boat at 3:30am in order to visit this site four hours away. It was well worth the early start!

  1. Being there in person to experience those amazing temples would be so beyond anything studied in that art history textbook back in the day!

    • It was a four hour drive through the desert from the boat to get there, but even Lionel was impressed! The crowds are thick, but it doesn’t matter. You should see some of the tourists dressed as Cleopatra etc taking selfies!
