Sometimes you arrive in a place and ask yourself “Why did I come here?” Corinth felt like that when we arrived at the train station located quite a way out of town. I had also booked our accommodation a fair distance from the city centre, mostly because I thought we were going to be near the beach, and secondly I assumed there would be a bus running regularly along the waterfront. (It was also a reasonable price!) Well, no. It was a good forty minutes walk to the city. (Not many taxis about!)
I also wanted to get bus tickets for our next destination, but that couldn’t be done either! Our third issue was wanting to get out to the Ancient sites without paying a fortune. Not to be defeated, I found a way around each problem and we have had a fantastic couple of days here.
Today we booked a taxi to take us to Acrokorinthos. Wow! So glad we managed it. It was fantastic. Corinth was one of many city states and I recall they fought against Athens in the Pelopponesian Wars (I studied Ancient History over fifty years ago). The fortress was built upon the highest hill. What a vantage point!
We also visited Ancient Corinth, which had an excellent museum and the remnants of a temple.

Glad you overcame Corinth challenges. Good to utilise your ancient history knowledge albeit 50 years later!! Hope you’ve observed a lot of Corinthian columns. 👍

Oh yes! The columns and statues are fabulous. The drape on the clothes is so realistic, such detail.

It was fantastic, we didn’t climb right up…you probably would have easily run to the top, but the pathways were covered in rocks smoothed by centuries of walkers…the view was great just below the summit.

Glad you were able to sort out all the little problems so you could enjoy your time here, some of those cobblestone pathways looked a bit tricky, i hope your ankle is holding up…the views were amazing!

Yes, it was slow going, but we just took our time. Fingers crossed, my ankle has been fine, so far!

Indeed! When we arrived and had to get the taxi from the railway station, which was so far away, I wondered how we were going to get away! Because the bus station is also a long way out of town. But it’s all worked out very well, just took a bit of searching on the net.

They look like poppies and they are strewn all over the site, along with tiny yellow daisies and long grass. Ancient history comes alive when we can see things like the fortress and understand the strategic location of such a place.
