Kalamata

We had no plans to come here, but after investigating buses to Pyrgos and distances to travel, I cancelled one booking and made another down south to Kalamata. So glad we did. It was a simple bus ride from the Isthmus Bus station, and then a local bus into town.

There is a Railway Museum Park, it’s great, all these old trains just sitting in the park, we love old trains!

We’ve had three relaxing days here on the Mediterranean coast, not very inviting for a swim really, but we dipped our feet in. Today we walked for about an hour along the beachfront. There were numerous bars and hotel/ apartments. Another few weeks and the place will be jam packed with sun seekers!

Yesterday we walked to the History and Folklore Museum in the old part of town. Lady was so pleased to welcome us. It was a great little museum in a beautiful old building, no photos please!

After that I visited the Traditional Greek Costume museum. Lionel went for a walk… it was fantastic. A private collection of various costumes, beautifully displayed over three levels. I could have spent hours there, but a large group of school kids arrived and I was happy to move on.

We’ve eaten at the local tavernas, and drinking the local rose is very easy! There are hundreds of yachts moored in the marina. Not the life for me, I’d rather stay on land!

I also visited China Mall and Jumbo Store, which was like a huge KMart, so much stuff is produced in the world. I can’t imagine it will all ever get used!
