Another day on Hydra #3

It was quite windy on our third day, but we had made plans to walk up through the village and down to the next little harbour (Kamini). There was a taverna called Christinas, so thought that might be a good place for lunch. Then aim for a swim, if the wind died down.

The narrow streets turn left or right or end as they please. I needed Google maps to make sure we were heading in the right direction. A few times I thought we should have been going up higher and we’d have to turn around and go down some stairs.

I just love the houses, with their outside shutters. The paintwork on many is peeling. Some are boarded up and some are just in a state of decay.

The gardens are colourful and overflowing with geraniums and bougainvillea, oh and of course cats everywhere!

I could have wandered the alleys for hours, but we were on a mission to get across to the little harbour, so we plodded on slowly…I didn’t want another fall!

This morning we sat and had breakfast right next to the harbour until the ferry came. It was delightful, watching the water taxis, the fishermen, the big catamarans and the local old men drinking their coffee. It was peaceful until the large cruiser arrived with a few hundred people on board, eager to visit for two hours!

    • Aw, the cat was black! That cruiser does three islands in a day, so I understand why people want to get off quickly and get their moneys worth. It certainly didn’t make me want to go cruising around the islands.

      • ”Almost a Maggie” appears under a forlorn looking white cat but on subsequent viewing I can see a Maggie lookalike above!!
