Big bus tour of Athens

From Piraeus to Athens on the metro costs us two Euros each, the ticket lasts for 90 minutes. Good value! We walked from Omonia Station down to our accommodation at The Economy Hotel. A very reasonably priced hotel with views of the Acropolis from the rooftop. Nothing fancy, but a good location, breakfast included, wifi and helpful staff. What more do you need?

We bought tickets for the Big Bus and didn’t receive our email ticket, but the bus driver patiently searched for our purchase and fifteen minutes later we were on our way! (He was astounded we didn’t have a working phone, just relying on wifi in the hotel!)

The tour travels around Athens and is valid for 48 hours, so it gave us a chance to decide what we wanted to look at and where we wanted to get off. We stayed on the bus for a complete circuit about an hour and a half. Some of the places give you a better view from the bus!

It’s warming up in Athens, and the crowds are beginning to increase, so we’re glad we’re almost done and dusted.

Yesterday we walked to Syntagma Square and watched the guards changing in front of Parliament House, very interesting!

I’ll do a separate post on the Acropolis and museum. We lined up for over an hour to visit. It was worth it!

  1. Someone was telling me that Athens is the new Berlin. In other words, it’s the new hip and happening place to be. lol.

Those guards are amazing. Can’t imagine how they do that in the middle of summer.
