In the (shuffling) footsteps of Marco Polo

Beijing, China

This morning we caught the subway to the Forbidden City. We shuffled along with the crowd (trying to thwart the queue jumpers!) and lined up for half an hour to pass through security…Lionel loved that part! The complex is immense, palace after palace, surrounded by massive imposing walls and ornate rooftops, sculptures and carvings. Certainly a place of grandeur…and so many nooks and crannies…you can just imagine the intrigues / conspiracies / alliances taking place behind these doors! So many people out and about on a Sunday, even a stroll through the park and by the lake is like an obstacle course…something new and amazing at every turn!
