Mianshan climbing – Pingyao wading

Jiexiu, China

Today we visited an area that I had only seen on Pinterest! It was amazing. Temples, walkways and shrines, as well as hotels all clinging to the sides of the mountains…we climbed up and down numerous stairs leading to very decorative temples. It certainly gave our hearts a workout…we did about 16,000 steps today… That was before it started to rain! Well we were actually back in town and had just started eating our dinner when a thunderstorm broke. Within minutes the street was awash, and what had started as a trickle down the Main Street became a torrent. We thought it had subsided so finished eating, paid and started walking down the street. The further we walked the deeper the water became…Lionel was saying to take off my boots and roll up my trousers…he of course had shorts on and longer legs! Slowly, slowly we moved forward, you could feel the mud on the road and I was just hoping I didn’t slip over because everything would have gone under. The waters were up to the top of my thighs! And it was dark. What an adventure. I wasn’t game to take a picture in case I dropped the iPad. Hard enough concentrating on where my feet were going! Ah China! Never a dull moment.
