Bozcaada Island

Bozcaada, Turkey

Now it did say windswept in the guide book, so we should not have been surprised! But even the side of the island that should have been protected was windy…so no swimming or relaxing on the beach, but lots of walking up and down hilly streets and fields. There is a fabulous fortress here, we can see it from our window. Yesterday we spent a few hours clambering around it. Reminded me of “Prince Valiant” so I was very happy! This island has a long history, and was a protective harbour for the Greeks when they were at war with Troy. It also produces wine, plenty of vineyards dotting the landscape…the Cabernet Sauvignon is very pleasant! We have eaten octopus, wild pickled plant ( don’t know it’s name), fresh beetroot, vine leaves, heaps of olives and assorted other vegetables marinated in delicious tasting olive oil while we have been here. You choose the dishes you want and the waiter brings you the selection…the eggplant/ aubergine salads are fantastic…must be time for dinner! PS Today, as we prepare to leave, the sun is shining brilliantly, the wind has dropped and the water is very calm…looks very peaceful and idyllic!
