Navigating into the Ngorogoro Crater

Ngorongoro, Tanzania

This was one of the most spectacular sights in Tanzania. We stopped on the way to the Serengeti at the top of the crater and tried to capture the view. Our third night was spent at Simba Campsite, on the edge of the crater. No howls or grunts during the night, but it was cold in our sleeping bags, even with beanies, socks and jackets! In the morning mist, zebras were grazing close by. We were up and away by 6am in order to make the most of our limited time in the caldera. Wildebeest and zebras galore…thousands of flamingoes…wallowing hippos…a pride of lions…hyenas, jackals and numerous birds…all living inside this collapsed volcano…felt a little like the lost world or Jurassic Park!
