Volubilis

The Roman Empire spread as far as Volubilis, an ancient city near Meknes. Lionel and I negotiated a taxi to take us there for a visit and then back to town. It is a UNESCO site. There were hoards of tourists roaming (Roman) all over the place…we managed to find a few quiet spots and were able to snap some pics without too many selfie loving people about!

Those Romans were amazing! The mosaics the artisans created were so detailed and have lasted for centuries.

I love the order and symmetry of the buildings and arches. The size of the Triumphal arches they build are impressive. A case where size does seem to matter and the bigger the better!

We also stopped at Moulay Idress, a pilgrimage town not far away. It is built on two hills, very strategic and it would have been great aerobic exercise in days gone by. Everyone in town has fossils of shells and trilobites to sell…I am amazed there are so many still available!
