While we were in the east, we took a day trip out to Davit Gareja, an ancient monastery complex. There were about 15 monasteries scattered in the area, most abandoned, but now there are only two that visitors can see – Lavra and Udabno.

You just have to wonder how they manage to build these amazing structures on the sides of mountains, without modern machinery!

You have to climb a bit to reach it, which only adds to the wonder of it all!

Doubtful if our modern buildings of today will last as long…so much history to see

I only just did! Haha, they were like a prelude to Vardzia, where there were lots more! Worse thing about getting old I think…worrying about where to put your feet.

Fabulous workmanship, built to last, love the bell tower, but such a lot of steps.

Surprisingly yes it is. We’re averaging over 10,000 steps a day and I’m not feeling too bad at all! (Well apart from feeling old some days!)

Looks like they were used as sets for Game of Thrones, with more snow naturally. Amazing!

Yes, I’ve thought lots of places in Georgia would have suited GoT and other movies/ tv series. Every time I see the snow it’s Dr Zhivago all over again! I’ll be watching it again when I get home.
