San Pedro Tlahuac to Puebla

Yesterday we drove to San Pedro and visited the lake of the Aztec kings. From here we caught a boat in a much less touristy area to visit the ancient chinampas and farmlands. These are floating islands that have been built up using the mud and trees from the lake. It’s a world heritage site and considered part of the “lungs” of the city.

Much quieter than Xochimilco
Families farm on the islands, but live in the surrounding areas
It looked so dry, but water is pumped from the lake
Our guide served us cinnamon tea or sweet coffee and cake
Waiting for lunch, Lionel tries his luck catching the barrel on the pole
Table decorations

We arrived at our hotel in the historic centre of Puebla and our room is right next to the pool. Bonus. We waited til late afternoon to walk around and visited the Cathedral, 16th Century Library and an exhibition of weaving and embroidery. Bliss!

Such opulence
What a beautiful place, made me quite emotional, being an old librarian!
Great street art
So happy seeing the detailed work
Not sure what these are, but I like them, the symmetry…
Look at the detail!
