Köyceğiz, Turkey

Yesterday we arrived in a very sleepy little town by the edge of another large lake. Our aim was to catch a boat cruise down to the coast, see some turtles and return to Koycegiz. There was nothing much happening in the town, apart from the various political parties blasting music from their vans as they tried to outdo each other! So this morning we managed to board a small boat for a cruise down to Dalyan. We thought there might have only been a few on the boat, but by the time it left at 10am it was fully loaded with Turks, Dutch, French and two Australians. We all had our tables and that was where we stayed! We sat with two lovely young Parisians and had a wonderful time dispelling some stereotypes on both sides, but mainly to do with deadly Australians such as sharks, crocs, spiders, stingers etc!! On the way home we were entertained by an old gentlemen balancing bottles, doing rope tricks and then belly dancing for us…he invited me to join him and of course I couldn’t resist…even got a few cheers from the mostly Turkish crowd. A very enjoyable day.
