Beautiful Bodrum

Bodrum, Turkey

We arrived at the bus station and only had a short walk to our hotel in beautiful downtown Bodrum. The yachts here look bigger and better than our previous destinations…so much money concentrated in one small harbour! This is an upmarket tourist town, but the location, castle, marina, beaches and outlying villages make it very attractive to European holidaymakers. We met two young Dutch girls who were paying 500 euros each for 11 days food, drink and air fares included…that’s very tempting! Yesterday we caught a bus to Gumusluk, a small town on the Bodrum Peninsula. We waded across a sunken road to a place called Rabbit Island, where evidently some 3000 years ago King Mausollus and his wife use to watch the sunset. Today we went on another boat trip, stopping at various coves for a swim. It was a different day for us…Bob Marley blaring from the loudspeakers and about 40 mostly young people from Morocco, Holland, Belgium, Turkey and who knows where else baking in the sun and enjoying the doof doof music. A lesson in being tolerant and accepting this was how the day was going to be! Very enjoyable really!
