Basking in the Sun in the Bazaruto Archipelago

Vilanculos, Mozambique

Today we caught a traditional dhow from our beautiful seaside apartment in Vilacunos to a fabulous sand island two hours away. The crew started bailing water about five minutes after we climbed aboard! On the way there were dolphins, a turtle and a manta ray…but no dugongs and definitely no whale sharks! The boat looked very old, with one large tattered canvas mast. The crew of three managed to provide us with morning tea, afternoon popcorn and a delicious bbq lunch…all with just one small stand, over coals! We climbed to the top of the sand dune and the view was stunning! The water is very clear and the temperature perfect. Last night, the “Munich” girls invited us down for a drink and a dance under the stars. They had their little beatbox going with songs from the 60s and 70s, (They are in their 30s and lots of fun.)
