Flying over and into The Okavango Delta

Maun, Botswana

We flew, in very small planes, over the fabulous delta two days ago. The changing landscape was magnificent! When we arrived at the bush airstrip, two trucks were waiting to drive us another hour and a half to our lodge. After about ten minutes, one of the wheels on one of the land rovers was rattling and a bolt was missing…no correct spanner on board…so we all piled into one truck and continued along the water covered track. Finally arriving at a lagoon, we transferred to a barge like boat for the trip to the Mopari Lodge, where we felt like royalty, gliding to the shore as the staff serenaded us! The delta is becoming increasingly inundated, small channels are forming amongst the papyrus and in areas that are otherwise dry. It is a truly beautiful place. The permanent “tents” at the lodge are luxury plus! A lovely surprise in the middle of nowhere (the delta) for two days!
