Our last day in the city by the bay, and again we caught the hop on hop off bus to enjoy more of the sights. The Golden Gate Bridge was totally covered in fog! How lucky were we the day before?
We did a circuit out to Lands End and the Pacific Ocean Beaches…even in Summer I think you would need a wetsuit!
Lionel thought this was a good idea!
He doesn’t need encouragement! I liked the sign on the side of this bus…
Our next stop was the Haight Ashbury district, we wandered along the street looking at various shops which seemed to be in a bit of a hippie time warp! We also were scolded for not lining up in the correct place in a deli…the instructions were on the floor! How were we to know?
I wanted to find this place that I had seen in the TV series “Tales of the City” which was based on a series of books by Armistead Maupin. We wandered around and found Alamo Square, a park on top of a hill where a lot of dog lovers were exercising their pets. It was also where the “Painted Ladies” were, a line of houses famous in many San Francisco shows.
We walked from here back to the city centre, and stopped to look at the cable car being turned. The wait line for a ride was quite long and we felt we’d seen enough of the Streets of San Fran by now, so we kept going to the subway. A quick trip on the train and we were back in beautiful downtown Oakland. Another big day out.
