Viva La Mexico

After three flights and a lot of waiting in transit, we finally arrived in Mexico City at midnight. I was wondering if the taxi we had booked would arrive and sure enough it did. Mission to Mexico accomplished!

There are more people living in this city than the whole of Australia and most of them speak Spanish. We know about five words and can pick up some meaning from one term of Latin. It’s a challenge!

We’ve been on a couple of tours and thankfully, our Colombian companions kindly translated what the guide was saying.

The Pyramids at Teotihuacan were fabulous, one devoted to the Sun and the other the Moon. It was very, very hot walking around at midday.

We also visited an artist’s centre, the weaving was spectacular and the tequila tasting was pretty good too!

Today we drove to Xochimilco. It’s a series of canals and the locals spend time partying in the boats that glide up and down the various waterways. There are Mariachi bands and food vendors in abundance. We were there early, before the crowds, but there were hundreds of boats, so I imagine it must get very crowded and lively at times.

We also stopped by Frida Kahlo’s museum. The line went around the corner and tickets had sold out. We were happy just to see it and check out the merchandise surrounding it.

The Artist Centre in Coyacan was also right up my alley. ( Lionel sat in the square watching the action while I wandered the markets). Weaving, embroidery, pottery and assorted other beautiful items for sale. I have a very small bag, and it’s just the beginning of the trip, so I will bide my time!
